Welcome to RefHelp

RefHelp is  designed to help GPs and other CLINICIANS make the best possible referrals  within Lothian. It is available by one click from the SCI gateway application and also directly via the internet or from links in the NHS Lothian intranet site. The aim is that all specialties within Lothian, which accept referrals, will have a page of up to date information about their service.

THE SITE IS NOT FOR USE BY PATIENTS FOR ADVICE WHICH SHOULD IN ALL CASES BE OBTAINED FROM THEIR OWN GP

A Directory of Services that offers Alternatives to Admission is now available. It is intended that this will provide current and real time information to GP’s and other referrers on what services are available, and how to access them.

The document is entitled ‘SPOC – Directory of Alternatives to Admission’ .(intranet only)

There is also a new directory of services for West Lothian for long term conditions:

Family Planning, Sexual Health & GUM Services Have Moved

NHS Lothian’s new Chalmers Sexual Health Centre opened its doors on Tuesday 7 June 2011.

The centre has been designed to provide a purpose built ‘one-stop-shop’ for sexual health services.

The Family Planning & Well Women service previously based at Dean Terrace and the Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) department at Lauristion Building have been combined to provide the services in the new centre.

For Family Planning information on RefHelp, click here

For GUM information on RefHelp, click here

For more information about Chalmers Sexual Health Centre please visit their website: http://www.lothiansexualhealth.scot.nhs.uk or by phone 0131 536 1070.

Some of the contact information on these services' RefHelp pages is no longer accurate; we appreciate your patience while these are updated.

Anticipatory Care Plans (ACPs)

AN INTRODUCTORY GUIDE

Anticipatory Care has entered the vocabulary of the Health Service almost without us noticing.

With the development of a number of enhanced services (national and local) and  ‘best practice’ service level agreements, came a proliferation of anticipatory care planning (ACP)documentation, (COPD, Care Homes, Edinburgh IMPACT Anticipatory Care Service, LUCS Special Notes) as well as others in their early stages e.g.learning disability.

The Future of RefHelp

Thank you to all 135 of you who took the time to complete the survey about RefHelp.  It is probably not surprising that the majority of responses were positive since they were made by users of the site. Those who do not use RefHelp would presumably not have been so positive. However with such a large and overwhelmingly positive response it is clear that there are many users of RefHelp who feel that its loss would make their job more difficult, reduce the quality of referrals and increase the number of avoidable referrals.

The results are summarised below.
